Welcome to our farm, 'Azienda Agricola Barbi'. On the following pages, I will describe the activities at our Agriturism and hope you will be curious not only about holidays and our place but also about our products. Our farm, 'Azienda Agricola Barbi', consists of 33 hectares. The main part of the farm consists of the original holding, 'Podere Montello', which was bought under the 'Mètayage system (mezzadria) in 1975 by my father, Francesco Barbi. It was a corageous deed as most of the farmers were leaving the land at that time. The farm, that I am running since 1990, is situated in a hilly area of the 'Val D'Orcia' and is 500 metres above sea level, 2 kms from Montichiello and 8 kms from Pienza. It has one of the most breathtaking views of the province of Siena and the Tuscan region. We cultivate: olives, cereals, grapes and legumes. From our olives, we produce excellent Extra Virgin olive oil. We also produce the characteristic 'Pici'. In fact, we are the first farm in Italy to have made 'Pici' pasta with our own wheat. Included in our products are the delicious 'Ceci Piccini Toscani' (small Tuscan chickpeas) and barley (used in soups). Our products are packaged and can be bought either directly at the farm or shops that sell exclusive Sienese products. In 1977, we began to farm using organic methods. We adhere to the principals of: eating healthily and respecting our environment. We also take pride in the fact that we started one of the first agriturism in our area. On our farm we have two farm houses with characteristic stone walls. The open views are spectacular and peace is ours.

The two farm houses, 'Casa Barbi' and 'Podere Montello', have independant self-contained apartments and can accomodate ten persons in all. Our farming and agritourism practices are organically certified by the I.C.E.A.(Institute for Ethical Environmental Certification).
